Attorney Behind John Travolta Lawsuit Fed Case by National Enquirer?
Rumor has it the National Enquirer may have fed attorney Okorie Okorocha the John Travolta sex assault lawsuit.
Before hitting the big time earlier this month, the story was the National Enquirer's March 26 cover story. No one picked it up. Yet, five weeks later, the allegations found their way to Okorocha, a Pasadena DUI lawyer.
Travolta attorney Martin Singer suspects the Enquirer was involved. "I don't know how you would pick Okorie Okorocha out of a phone book," he told the Los Angeles Times. The tabloid has not commented on the allegations.
Regardless, the entire story is a bit off. Okorocha originally claimed to have forgotten how he came across the case, according to the paper. But then he said he knew an editor from Radar Online. The site then sent him a letter demanding that he stop making such claims. He then retracted his story.
How Okorocha came to represent the two masseurs isn't legally relevant at this point. Before Travolta can bring a malicious prosecution suit, he'd have to be vindicated in court. And as of now, the masseurs have dismissed the lawsuit and hired Gloria Allred.
Still, if the National Enquirer was involved in the lawsuit, Okorie Okorocha should probably watch out. At times, his representation bordered on malpractice. He seems to have taken the masseurs' stories at face value, even messing up the dates. The complaint reads like a tabloid and it looks like he hastily copied and pasted pieces of past pleadings.
If the state bar decides to investigate these failures, the gossip rag's involvement certainly won't help his case.
