Gavel on laptop computer keyboard concept for online internet auction or legal attorney assistance
By George Khoury, Esq. on June 10, 2019

So National Email Week is a thing, and what it's supposed to celebrate really seems to be as elusive as who created it. But if people are going to celebrate email during the second week of June every year, then it would seem like a good time for lawyers to think about how they could be better at email.

Here at FindLaw, we think about that sort of stuff all the time. And to do our part for National Email Week, below you can find 7 of our best email tips for lawyers.

1. Lawyers, Is It Time to Automate Your Email Empathy?

If you don't care that much about your clients, good news, you don't have to fake it anymore. With the right email set up, you can now automate empathy, probably.

2. Why Vacation Emails and 'Workcations' Harm Company Culture

Need another reason to take a vacation and not even look at your email why you're away? We got you covered. Emailing while on vacation is bad for your firm's culture.

3. How Sure Are You That Your Client Actually Received an Email?

Email may seem like a very reliable way to communicate, but lots of things can go wrong when sending or replying to an email. Do you know how to confirm receipt of an email, or whether or when you even have to? Find out.

4. Lawyers: Take the Google Phishing Quiz

Phishing scams are still around, and probably more prevalent than ever before (what with automated email empathy being a thing now). Fortunately, Google has designed a phishing quiz to test your skills at spotting the scams, and teach you what to look out for.

5. Lawyers: Flip That Email Disclaimer Around

You know those lengthy email disclaimers at the bottom of emails you get from other lawyers? They're mostly worthless, and if you're going to use one, might as well make it short and sweet and put it at the top of your emails where it might actually help.

6. 5 Ways to Deal With Your Post-Vacation Email Inbox

While just deleting it all and moving on with your day can be tempting, you know you just can't ... or can you?

7. Lawyer Blames Junk Email for Missed Deposition

You know what’s not a good reason for missing a deposition? Missing an email because it got routed into your spam folder. While it's cumbersome, manually checking your spam folder regularly can help avoid spam-related catostrophes.
