How to Pick a Legally Themed Halloween Costume

By George Khoury, Esq. | Last updated on

With Halloween right around the corner, you might still be searching for that perfect legal/lawyer themed costume for a contest or party.

If you are, below you can find some ideas that will be sure to result in a few cackles or screams.

TV Lawyers

When it comes to the best TV lawyers from recent years, you have quite a few options. For one, Better Call Saul has a few excellent lawyers you can mimic for a night. In addition to Jimmy McGill, there's Kim Wexler, as well as Chuck, and a bevy of other side characters.

If you're not into Saul, but loved The Grinder, which for some reason was cancelled, you can show the world that you wished The Grinder would just keep grinding. And if those ideas don't do it for you, you can always go as Mitch from Modern Family.

And if none of the recent lawyers hit the mark for you, don't fear diving into your television history and going as Ally McBeal, Bobby Donnell, or Ben Matlock.

Real Life TV Lawyers

If you're less into comedic costumes, and more into something that will frighten fellow attorneys and peers, the perfect pair of real life TV lawyers, Michael Avenatti and Rudy Giuliani, are easy costumes that don't require more than either an appropriately tailored suit, bald cap and sunglasses for Avenatti, and a bald cap and oversized suit for Giuliani.

If you're not really into impersonating other lawyers, you can always pick a favorite judge (SCOTUS justices are obviously the most recognizable), or a legal concept abstractly conveyed. For instance, this ATL costume contest winner: Original Intent. Or this one for International Shoe.

While new ideas can be difficult to come-by, just think of the best case related puns, or misunderstandings that you can think of (for those big cases that are taught in school or make national headlines, ie. "lawyer-dog"), and then bring it to life literally.
