LawyerUp Promises Emergency Attorney as Fast as Pizza Delivery

Ever feel like your clients wish you could magically appear to their aid within minutes of a call? LawyerUp attorneys do.

The relatively new service promises, for its subscribers, that they'll be able to get a lawyer to help them within 15 minutes - the same time frame that you can get a pizza delivered.

Attorneys can sign up to be listed on the LawyerUp site for free. Users who want a lawyer delivered in 15 minutes or less, however, will need to pay up.

LawyerUp's fees are on a scale. You can either pay $4.95 a month for unlimited phone support, or if you want to sign up with no upfront cost, you can - and next time you need a service you just need to pay a $100 dispatch fee, and up to $250 to the dispatched layer for the first hour of legal representation.

Of course, the service doesn't work for all lawyers in all businesses. Trademark attorneys and corporate attorneys don't really need to be "on call" for quick emergencies. LawyerUp's target audience seems to be young adults who may need some urgent assistance from attorneys.

Right now, LawyerUp has only started full operations in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Most of their listed attorneys are criminal attorneys, reports The New York Times.

The existence of a company like LawyerUp seems to call into question what firms and attorneys should do to make themselves more available to clients. After all, if a client is arrested in the dead of night, and is in need of representation - how are they going to find an attorney? A phone book? Calling a friend or family member to scour the internet and yellow pages for an attorney?

As much money you can pour into marketing ventures trying to capture more clients, the truth is that sometimes potential clients just won't be able to see your ads due to the constraints of the situation.

Maybe listing your firm as a LawyerUp attorney (if this venture pans out) - or at least thinking of ways to get word out about your firm can actually be beneficial for the law firm's business.
