Report: Most Law Firms Offer Flexible Work Arrangements
If you ever envied another lawyer who had a flexible work schedule, you were not alone.
Actually, maybe you were alone -- sort of. Most law firms today offer flexible work arrangements.
It's one of the more popular perks -- after huge bonuses and forever vacation time -- but not everybody gets to do it. If your bosses don't offer flex time, maybe it's time they loosen up.
Everybody (Sort of) Does It
According to the 2019 Salary Guide for Legal Professionals, more than 50 percent of medium and large firms offer some flexible work. It makes sense for lots of reasons.
"We're seeing employers think outside the box with the types of benefits they offer, and it's paying off," said Amanda Ellis, senior vice president of Special Counsel.
In a survey of 6,000 respondents, the legal consultancy and attorney-recruiting firm said many law firms and in-house departments are offering alternative benefits to attract talent. Legal workers want:
- Bonuses
- Flex time
- Paid meals
- Onsite childcare
- Paid volunteer time
Employers are responding with more benefits. In addition to offering flex time, about half of them pay for parental leave.
"Significant" Compensation
It's not just about money; it's about employers offering workers a "full experience," Ellis said.
Coupled with salaries, says the ABA Journal, attorneys are receiving "significant" compensation. Large law firms offered an average of $234,556 in total compensation last year.
