This JD's "Alternative Career" Got a Little Too Alternative

By Kevin Fayle on May 08, 2009 | Last updated on March 21, 2019
We all know that the job market for lawyers is, how shall we say, not-so-good right now.  But how bad does it have to get before a JD/MBA resorts to taking up the world's oldest profession and becomes a lady of the night?

Nina C. Baccala decided that the chances of finding work at a law firm were sufficiently low to justify making the switch to prositution.
Unfortunately for Baccala, her alternative career choice didn't turn out to be much better than being chained to a desk as a lawyer.  According to the Providence Journal, this member of the Massachusetts Bar and former law clerk was at a man's apartment to conduct some business when the john suddenly came at her with a kitchen knife in an attempted robbery.

This is how the Journal describes the attack:

"Baccala told the police that Lapierre held the knife to her throat and threw her on the couch, according to the police report. Baccala sprayed Lapierre in the face with a chemical spray and fought him off when he tried to stab her, according to the police report. She fled outside and called the police."

Baccala, aside from being highly educated, is apparently pretty tough.

Maybe she should consider hanging out her own shingle.  She's obviously got the entrpreneurial spirit, and it's actually a good time for it, according to some.
