Masterpiece Baker Can Sue Colorado
The Masterpiece Cake Shop baker has filed a lawsuit against the state of Colorado alleging that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission has been hostile towards him. Regardless about how you feel about the issues, if you read the Supreme Court case, then you know, the hostility was pretty obvious.
After the big Supreme Court decision came back in favor of the baker, he faced a new formal complaint from the commission relating to another cake he refused to make for a person celebrating their gender transition. Apparently, again, he offered to sell his premade, generic goods, but refused to make a custom made and designed cake due to his religious beliefs.
Twitter Hater
From the Supreme Court's decision finding that the Colorado law was fine, but the commission's application of the law grossly inconsistent and biased against the reluctant religious baker, it's pretty clear the baker doesn't have any friends on the commission. Also, apparently, one of the commissioners called the baker a "hater" on Twitter.
In the recently filed lawsuit against the commission, on ruling against a motion to dismiss filed by the commission, the court explained that the commission's hostility towards the baker were both "clear and impermissible."
Notably, some commentators believe that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission should drop the underlying case against the baker so as to not allow the instant matter to go up to the Supreme Court again, where it is more likely to result in a ruling on the merits.
