In a time when law school applications are down, and lawyer unemployment rates are up, it's not often that we get to type the following words: Someone is hiring.

Take a moment to calm down — we know this is big news — and get your resume ready.

You could be the next Third Circuit Career Staff Attorney.

Mark your calendar: The deadline for applications is February 22, 2013. Applications must be submitted through OSCAR, the federal appellate court staff and clerk hiring website. Your application will not be considered otherwise.

Before you start filling out your application, you need to know a little more about the gig. The Third Circuit explains:

While the staff attorney position is primarily a research and writing position, it also involves some case management responsibilities. Qualified applicants must have substantial experience and expertise in the areas of immigration law, federal habeas corpus, appellate jurisdiction, and federal civil rights laws. Substantial experience working with pro se filings in federal court is also required. Capital habeas corpus experience is preferred. Applicants must have a strong academic background and demonstrated research and writing skills, as well as maturity, good judgment, high ethical standards, flexibility in handling assignments, and a positive work attitude.

If this sounds like you, and you're willing to work in the $103,152 to $134,107 range, get your application in.

Along with your application, you must submit a cover letter, résumé, current law school transcript, and a writing sample "edited by you only demonstrating your ability to analyze a discrete legal issue."
