President Obama Nominates Cheryl A. Krause for Third Circuit Bench

By Gabriella Khorasanee, JD on February 07, 2014 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

On Wednesday, President Obama announced that he intended to nominate Cheryl A. Krause to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, reports The Washington Times. He stated: "Cheryl Ann Krause has displayed exceptional dedication to the legal profession through her work and I am honored to nominate her to serve the American people as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals," and added, "She will be a diligent, judicious and esteemed addition to the Third Circuit bench."

We had a chance to read her impressive bio and we can see why the President nominated Krause. To learn more about her, read on.

Cheryl Ann Krause's resume is one for the books, and is the envy of pretty much every lawyer. She's excelled in every area a lawyer could excel in.

Academics

Cheryl Krause graduated from the University of Pennsylvania summa cum laude and received her J.D. from Stanford with highest honors. While at law school, she was the Senior Features Editor of the Stanford Law & Policy Review, and was awarded first prize in the Marion Rice Kirkwood Moot Court Competition.

Clerking

After law school, Krause went on to clerk for Judge Alex Kozinski, judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and then afterward clerked for Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy.

Teaching & Publishing

From very early on in her career, Krause has lectured and taught at the likes of the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford Law and Columbia Law Schools. One of her publication credits includes co-authoring the First Edition of the United States chapter in Global Legal Insights - Bribery & Corruption.

Practice

After brief stints in BigLaw and as Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Krause became partner at Dechert LLP, where she focuses on government investigations and white-collar criminal defense.

Distinctions

Among many of her distinctions, Krause counts being named one of the "Best Lawyers in America," and a "Woman of Distinction."

Krause is one of five people Obama nominees announced on Wednesday. Let's hope these nominations go through more smoothly, than Obama's other recent nominations.
