Oakland Courthouses

Oakland is the busiest port city in Northern California and one of the most diverse cities in the country. The city also has very busy court system. There are five courthouses in or near downtown Oakland that serve the County of Alameda Superior Court. The Superior Court has seven divisions - civil, small claims, family law, probate, criminal, traffic and juvenile - and many more departments. Oakland also has two federal court locations: one for district court cases and another for bankruptcy proceedings. Alameda County Courthouses

  • Rene C. Davidson Courthouse

    The courthouse hears civil, criminal and juvenile cases. Departments 1-13 are located here. Services available at this location include ADR services, family law facilitator services and a self-help center.

  • County Administration Building

    This location hears civil and small claims cases. Departments 14-25 are located here. The Clerk’s Office for these cases is located at the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse.

  • Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse

    This courthouse hears criminal cases and traffic violations. Departments 101-115 are located here. Services available at this location include a children’s waiting room and pretrial services. There is a parking structure on the corner of 7th and Jefferson that charges $6.00 per day with validation from the courthouse.

  • George E. McDonald Hall of Justice

    This location in Alameda hears cases involving family law issues, including child custody, visitation and support, juvenile dependency, elder abuse and domestic violence. Departments 301-303 are located here. There is also a self-help center at this location.

    The Berkeley Courthouse hears probate cases. Departments 201 and 202 are located here. There is a fee for street parking and nearby parking garages.
