Baltimore Courthouses

Circuit Court

Divisions: Appellate, Criminal, Civil, Conservatorship, Domestic Violence, Family, Guardianship, Juvenile, Probate, and Orphan’s Court.

Parking: There are several lots on Guilford Avenue, St. Paul Place, and South Calvert Street. Consider taking MTA public transportation.

Note: The Circuit Court is responsible for hearing all major felony cases  and misdemeanor jury trials. All civil claims are heard in this court exclusively involving disputes over $20,000 and  in addition to all family law matters including divorce, custody, child support and/or visitation. If you’re on jury service, some restaurants offer a lunch discount.

District Court

Parking: Consider taking MTA. Buses numbers 27, 58, 59 and 60 have bus stops near by. The Metro Subway Reisterstown Plaza Station is on Wabash Ave.

Note: The District Court is responsible for all traffic matters, civil matters under $10,000 (including small claims disputes) and all criminal misdemeanor cases. The building also houses satellite offices for the public defender and the state's attorney for Baltimore City. Hungry? Try Mari Luna Mexican Grille and get the salsa.

Civil Division

Parking: There are several pay lots in the area. Consider taking MTA. Buses numbers 5, 6, 8, 19, 20, 36, 150, 160, 310have bus stops near by. The Metro Subway Shot Tower Station is located on East Baltimore Street and from there you can transfer to MTA bus 20 to the Courthouse.

Note: All minor civil matters including landlord tenant disputes, housing violations and minor civil suits are handled here.

Eastside District Court Building

Parking: There is a pay lot adjacent to the building. From downtown use MTA bus 19; from East Baltimore, use MTA bus 13.

Note: Don’t let the exterior of the building fool you. It might look like a Sears Department store (it was!), it’s actually the courthouse. 

Courtroom at Central Booking Intake Facility

Parking: Consider taking MTA.

Note: This is largely a correctional intake facility run by the state of Maryland. Judges assigned here usually hold hearings involving persons recently arrested for crimes and who are being held, pre-trial, in lieu of a certain dollar amount bail. Bail review hearings are held daily.

John R. Hargrove, Sr. Building

Parking: There is a paid lot adjacent to the courthouse. Consider MTA buses number 16 and 64 have bus stops nearby.

Note: In addition to five courtrooms, there’s also offices for the public defender and the state's attorney.

Parking: There’s metered parking outside the Court House. Public garages are located one block south of the County Courts Building at 100 W. Susquehanna Avenue and 110 W. Susquehanna Avenue. Consider taking public transportation.

This building also houses the Law Library, the Jury Office, Family Mediation, and Court Psychiatrist.

District Court

Parking: There is free parking here. MTA bus number 4 stops nearby.

District Court

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Maryland and U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland

Parking: The entrance to the courthouse is on West Lombard Street. There are parking facilities on all the surrounding streets. The courthouse is located in the central business district and easily accessible from several highway exits. Consider taking MTA.

Immigration Court

Parking: Parking is available under the Fallon Federal Building at the end of Hanover Street and at the Bank of America building. Parking under the Fallon Federal Building is $15.00 per day and the other parking ranges from $9.00 to $15.00 per day.

Note: The Immigration Court does not accept fees for applications. All application fees are paid to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office located on the 1st floor of the Fallon Federal Building. If you need legal assistance, click here.

Maryland Tax Court

Parking: There is metered parking on Preston Street and Eutaw Street, and a surface parking lot located across the street. Consider taking MTA.

Note: All petitions appeal must be mailed or hand delivered to the court. They do not have an electronic filing system.
