Minnesota Asbestos Regulations

Minnesota Asbestos Overview

Asbestos has become a very scary word these days. With all the talk of toxic exposure, cancer risks, and more, it is no wonder you may have questions about asbestos use and exposure in Minnesota and any possible regulations. To start, asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that has been used to manufacture certain products used in daily life in the United States. There are several different types of asbestos including:

  • Chrysotile (white asbestos) -- most commonly used in the U.S.
  • Amosite (brown asbestos)
  • Crocidolite (blue asbestos)

Each type of asbestos can be harmful if you inhale any part of the airborne microscopic fibers. Currently there is no known “safe level” of asbestos exposure. Certain illnesses are more commonly associated with asbestos exposure including mesothelioma and lung cancer. Each type of cancer can be fatal. If you believe you have been exposed to toxic asbestos fibers, be sure to see a doctor immediately. To be sure, asbestos illnesses such as mesothelioma can impact anyone including celebrities such as Steve McQueen who died from the illness in 1980.
