Omaha is Nebraska's largest city, but residents know that it has a small town feel. However, even residents of Nebraska's biggest small town have legal trouble from time to time. Whether you need to deal with a traffic ticket or you’re involved in a complex civil suit, this Omaha courthouse resources page can point you in the right direction.
Omaha has two levels of county courts and three types of federal courts. The Douglas County Court handles traffic violations, misdemeanor criminal cases, juvenile cases, probate issues and civil cases under $52,000, including small claims. The Douglas County District Court handles family law issues, felony criminal cases and civil cases involving more than $51,000. Because the District Court and several divisions of the County Court share the Hall of Justice building, most court business is conducted there. Check out the Omaha court services page for links to court websites, online resources and other information.
As for federal courts, the Roman L. Hruska United States Courthouse is home to the Omaha branches of both the Federal District Court and the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nebraska. Omaha's immigration court is located on the other side of town.
