Perhaps not surprisingly, Vegas residents run into all sorts of financial and legal difficulties. Sometimes it's through no fault of one's own, as perhaps life just dealt a bad hand. Still, when this happens, it's important not to fold too soon.
Several Las Vegas and Clark County organizations offer legal assistance to locals with low incomes, and other services are available regardless of one's assets. If you've been affected by legal crises involving housing, immigration, domestic violence, and other issues, someone in the area can likely help. The organization provides assistance in several forms: (1) direct representation, (2) self-help materials, and (3) free consultations. Tel: (702) 455-1500The Self-Help Center directs individuals to legal information, forms, and materials. Services are available to all, regardless of income. The Center focuses on annulments, child support, custody, divorce, guardianship, and other matters related to family law.

Tel: (702) 671-3970The center is open M-F between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The staff refers parties to resources and assists individuals with completing forms. Staff may also provide information on court rules and procedure, but they cannot give advice.

Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS)

Tel: (702) 382-2200LRIS provides free referrals to private attorneys. Individuals call the service, and a staff member will ask several questions to determine what kind, if any, of legal assistance you need. The service will then pair you with an attorney who will reduce his/her fees to $25 for the first consultation. At that point, you and the attorney will work out future fees, but he/she may charge no more than $75 per hour.
