Newark Courthouses
Last updated: September 24, 2013
Newark is the financial, commercial, and transportation nucleus of the Garden State. The city is notable for many things---racial diversity, miserably humid summers, bitterly cold winters, Port Newark (the largest shipping terminal on the East Coast), and Newark Liberty International Airport (one of the busiest municipal airports in the country. In our busy city, the courts are equally as active.
If you have a court case and live in the Eastern Essex County area, you know there are a myriad of courthouses servicing the Gateway Region metropolitan area. If you have a civil, criminal, probate or family law matter, it’s likely in the New Jersey Superior Court.
Here’s we’ve highlighted five key court systems you’ll most likely encounter: the New Jersey Superior Court including the Appellate, Civil, Criminal, Municipal, Family, General Equity, and Probation Divisions, the Tax Court of New Jersey, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of New Jersey, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the Newark Immigration Court operated by the Department of Justice.
