Kim Kardashian's Prenup Leaves Kris Humphries Empty Handed
Kim Kardashian's prenup leaves soon-to-be ex-husband Kris Humphries without any extra Kardashian bling in his bank account.
Reports are that the prenuptial agreement keeps all of their property separate.
The financially sound prenup shouldn't be much of a surprise. After all, Kim's father is an attorney. And, in Kim's own words, she's a "smart girl."
Smart enough to insist on an airtight prenup, anyway.
After all, TMZ reports that the Kardashian empire raked in around $65 million last year. Kris Humphries' NBA salary seems paltry in comparison. He only made around $3.2 million for his season with the New Jersey Nets.
Without a prenup, Kardashian and Humphries' split might have become financially messy.
California is a community property state. This typically means that property acquired during the marriage is considered part of the "community." Without the prenup, income that Kim made during her short 72 days of marriage might have been split with her ex.
The same goes for Humphries. Though, because of the NBA lockout it seems that he's been gainfully unemployed during the short time he's served as Kardashian's husband.
Luck for Kim, with a prenup she avoids all these money issues. The reality star apparently stipulated that all income generated during the marriage would remain separate property, according to the Huffington Post.
Kim Kardashian's prenup was a smart move. And financially speaking, she made out fairly well in the end. Kim threw a lavish $10 million wedding, but made $18 million from media rights to the matrimonial shindig, as New York Magazine pointed out.
