Snoop Dogg Arrested for Pot in Same TX Town as Willie Nelson
What do Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson have in common? They've both been arrested in the same small west Texas town over marijuana. Snoop Dogg's latest pot bust took place at a border patrol checkpoint in tiny Sierra Blanca, Texas.
A drug-sniffing dog reportedly smelled out the presence of weed. Authorities found several joints in a prescription bottle in a trash can in the back of Snoop's bus.
The rapper claimed ownership of the marijuana, according to the New York Daily News.
So just what is going on in Sierra Blanca, Texas?
The small desert town has a checkpoint where anyone driving from San Antonio west is sure to cross. Now another, high-profile pot smoker has been caught there.
Snoop has a prescription for marijuana in California. California is just one of a growing number of states that have legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes.
Typically, states that have medical marijuana laws usually require a prescription. Doctors need to identity a debilitating illness or condition that may benefit from the use of marijuana. Sick patients can then obtain the drug to treat their symptoms.
Marijuana remains illegal under federal law. And, Texas has a zero-tolerance policy for the drug, according to the New York Daily News.
Snoop Dogg was given a citation for drug possession and then released. The rapper only had around half an ounce in possession. This is a Class B misdemeanor under Texas law.
Defendants found guilty of a Class B misdemeanor can be punished by a fine of up to $2,000 and jail time of up to 180 days.
This isn't the first time that Snoop Dogg's pot has landed him in trouble. He was previously arrested for marijuana possession in 1998, 2001, 2006, and 2007. Just like Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson has also had his fair share of brushes with the law. Nelson was arrested in 2010, and previously ran into trouble in 2006 and 1995.
