No, not the American Automobile Association. These jobs in the aerospace, animation, and academic industries are perfect for attorneys looking to make a shift in their careers.
1. Associate Principal Counsel, Disney
It's Disney, folks. Who wouldn't want to work at Disney? Just think of how impressed your kids would be.
The actual job sounds decent, too. As associate principal counsel, you'd be supporting Disney's retail and publishing businesses (so, more the Disney Store than Disney World) with a focus on e-commerce, content acquisition, and digital publishing.
They're looking for someone with seven years of experience in negotiating and drafting contracts in a firm or in-house setting, but if you don't have that, don't let it get you down. Remember, as Jiminy Cricket says, "When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, anything your heart desires will come to you."
2. General Counsel, MAG Aerospace
If animation isn't your thing, perhaps aviation is. MAG Aerospace is a government and commercial provider of aerial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance through manned and unmanned aircraft.
As general counsel, you'd report to MAG's executive general counsel. Your work would include issues dealing with export control and trade laws, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and business ethics. There would also be the typical in-house fare like reviewing and negotiating contracts and employment agreements, advising management, and assisting with M&A issues.
3. Attorney-Counselor, University of Michigan
Here's a chance to work in academia without having to become an academic. If you like the university life but don't want to spend your days giving lectures on consideration to 1Ls, this could be the gig for you.
The attorney-advisor position's job is, well, jobs. You'd be conducting individualized career counseling and career planning for Michigan's law students and alumni, while helping to build a network with legal employers and keeping on top of industry trends.
