USA's New Legal Drama 'Fairly Legal' Features Mediation!
If there's one thing less exciting than another lawyer television show, how about a show about mediation? "A mediator is kind of a referee in a game with no rules - except those agreed to by the parties involved," a judge played by Gerald McRaney says early in the pilot episode of Fairly Legal.
Kate Reed, is "a former lawyer with a complicated personal life," writes the San Francisco Chronicle. Reed is played by the gorgeous Sarah Shahi, who might make the show worth watching even if it was an hour-long advertisement for the Slap Chop. The show is set in San Francisco.
The premise of the show is that Kate (Sarah Shahi) gave up a job as an attorney at her father's prestigious San Francisco firm, after becoming burnt out. "In court ... somebody wins, but there's always a loser." I'm admittedly biased and I haven't seen the show, but that sounds trite as can be. But hey, it's only TV.
"Kate is someone who's very comfortable with conflict ... She moves toward it and solves it," says Michael Sardo, creator of the show, the New York Daily News reports. The Daily News nailed it when they quoted executive producer Steve Stark: "Part of the fun of the show ... is watching Kate crawl back out of the holes she's dug herself into." (Though the best part of the show, in any scene, is simply watching Sarah Shahi.)
