Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
Attorneys and law schools alike both seem prone to making ethical blunders. Though thankfully, the legal profession at least has some accountability, evidenced by the American Bar Association slapping the law school at Villanova with a public censure.
Apparently, Villanova University School of Law knowingly reported inaccurate admissions data.
The inaccurate data includes GPA and LSAT statistics for its entering classes. In multiple years, the "reported" GPA and LSAT were higher than the "actual" GPA and LSAT of its admitted class.
To the untrained eye, these mistakes in reporting might seem harmless. But, to the typical high-strung law school applicant, these numbers are the boundary between life and death.
Okay, maybe that's a bit of a dramatization. But, at the least, these admissions statistics are numbers that prospective law students rely heavily upon during the application process.
That and a copy of the U.S. News' ranking of law schools.
Were applicants heavily impacted by these inflated admissions statistics?
Who knows, maybe there were law students who didn't turn in an application to Villanova because they thought the school would be out of their reach.
Or, there may have been students who applied to Villanova only because it looked like they were more selective in their admissions process. After all, what's more important to a wannabe lawyer than prestige?
Though, for Villanova, "prestige" may now become an elusive shadow. The ABA's public censure includes coverage by the ABA Journal and a mandate that the school send out a public statement of corrections. And, any potential applicant who visits Villanova's website will be graced with a copy of the public censure, which must be posted on Villanova's website for two years.
Poor Villanova. Public censure just might be a bitter pill to swallow.
