Weiner Turns to Baker Hostetler Partner for Advice on Scandal

By Stephanie Rabiner, Esq. | Last updated on

Partner John Siegal of Baker Hostetler has reportedly been retained as Rep. Anthony Weiner's lawyer.

That's right, now that he has scarred us for life with unflattering shirtless pictures, crotch shots and bad puns, the Congressman appears to be gearing up for battle with the House Ethics Committee.

Let's just hope he remembers his shirt and pants.

Now that Weiner has admitted that he spent days lying about his inability to use Twitter and his penchant for inappropriate self-portraits, House Minority Rep. Nancy Pelosi has formally requested that the ethics authorities open up an investigation into his actions.

For what? Using Congressional resources to send crotch shots into the Twitterverse? For not knowing how to send a Direct Message? For behaving like an idiot? For having remote affairs with random women and a porn star he met on Facebook?

Pelosi claims she wants to know if he broke any House rules, reports the Washington Post. But the truth is that stupidity and technological impairment aren't unethical, though that whole lying thing may pose a problem.

Now, back to John Siegal.

Apparently he's no stranger to Capitol Hill or politics in general. He reportedly worked with Chuck Schumer, on Weiner's bid for mayor of New York City, and was part of the transition team for current Attorney General Eric Scheiderman, notes the Wall Street Journal.

Maybe, as Rep. Anthony Weiner's lawyer, he can put that political knowledge to use and convince the Congressman to resign. Seriously, it would save us all the pain of being bombarded with the dirty details that are sure to come out in the investigation.
