Where Did Ally McBeal Go to Law School? 9 Fictional TV Lawyers' Alma Maters

Where did Ally McBeal go to law school? TV shows depicting lawyers typically start in the middle of a fictional attorney's career, so there is often little mention of their humble beginnings.

But long before Perry Mason and Ben Matlock (yes, his first name is Ben) were cracking psyches in the courtroom, they were presumably cracking books in a law library.

We've done the hard Internet research for you on this one, so check out where Ally McBeal and these other fictional TV attorneys (supposedly) went to law school:

1. Ally McBeal (from Fox's "Ally McBeal"): Harvard Law School -- The waify Ally McBeal began her fictional legal career at Harvard Law, although she only went there for a guy. So Elle Woods.


2. Jack McCoy (from NBC's "Law and Order"): New York University School of Law (?) -- "Law and Order'"s experienced DA Jack McCoy (played by Sam Waterston) is rumored to have gone to New York University Law School, which makes sense to us.


3. Alicia Florrick (from CBS' "The Good Wife"): Georgetown University Law Center -- Alicia Florrick, the titular character from "The Good Wife," went to Georgetown, and so did the recently bumped off Will Gardner.


4. Ben Matlock (from NBC/ABC's "Matlock"): Harvard Law School -- Like Ally McBeal, Matlock attended Harvard Law, potentially right when they opened. Because, you know, Matlock is old.


5. Eli Stone (from ABC's "Eli Stone"): Stanford Law School -- Eli Stone of the underappreciated show by the same name was the valedictorian of his fictional class at Stanford, and according to The Wall Street Journal, he also fictionally clerked for Justice Ginsberg.


6. Lindsey McDonald (from The WB's "Angel"): University of California, Hastings College of the Law -- A bit character in the "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" spinoff series "Angel," Lindsey McDonald is a member of a demon-run law firm based in Los Angeles called Wolfram & Hart. He also went to UC Hastings, where this blogger went to school (had to give props).


7. Saul Goodman (from AMC's "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul"): University of American Samoa -- Lovable shady attorney Saul Goodman from "Breaking Bad" (and the upcoming spinoff "Better Call Saul") allegedly went to University of American Samoa, which doesn't really exist and doesn't have a law school. Seems like a good fit.


8. Olivia Pope (from ABC's "Scandal"): Georgetown University Law Center -- Professional fixer Olivia Pope went to Georgetown thanks to her dad, although she might not thank him later.


9. Barry Zuckerkorn (from Fox/Netflix's "Arrested Development"): Somewhere in the Virgin Islands -- The putsy "Arrested Development" attorney told the Bluths that he went to law school in the Virgin Islands. But he also paid someone else to take the California bar exam for him.

Sorry, but we couldn't track down where Bob Loblaw went to law school.
