April Fool's Day Bank Heist is No Joke
An April Fool's Day bank heist was no joke when a gunman stole thousands of dollars in cash, locked employees in a vault and left behind a package with flashing lights.
The armed bank robber stole between $10,000 and $100,000 on April Fool's Day, locked three bank tellers of the National Exchange Bank and Trust in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin in a vault and left behind suspicious package with flashing lights, according to the Associated Press.
The bank robber told the bank employees that he was not playing an April Fool's joke. He also told the tellers they would be electrocuted if they left before the lights stopped flashing.
According to police when the bank manager arrived to at the bank and walked into her office she never saw the robber walk out of the door.
Police release surveillance footage of the disguised robber.
The man -- described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds -- wore a baseball hat, sunglasses, police said.
He also wore a wig, fake mustache and fake beard, bank tellers told the police. The man also was wearing gloves, a dark sports coat, matching pants and white tennis shoes.
Authorities say the bank heist is similar to another unsolved case last summer, in which a man wearing a false beard and sunglasses forced employees and a customer into a back room and left behind a suspicious package.
The crime lab is examining the evidence from the latest incident.
The package was detonated inside the bank by the Milwaukee County Bomb Squad.
The local police and the FBI are working together to continue to look for the bank robber.
