Rap Video Film Crew Catches Fla. Assault Suspect on Tape

By Stephanie Rabiner, Esq. | Last updated on

Lucas Jeffrey James of Seminole, Florida has got to be one of the stupidest criminals ever.

Fleeing from the scene of his crime--shirtless and clearly intoxicated--he ran into a crew filming a rap video. Instead of acting like a normal criminal and protecting his identity, he took the opportunity to shove his face into the camera.

Makes you question the future of mankind, doesn't it?

According to police, Lucas Jeffrey James attacked two women on a busy downtown street before running off, reports the St. Petersburg Times.

After calling them derogatory names, he allegedly spit beer in their faces and then hit one of the women over the head with a beer bottle, reports the paper. The victims claim there was no provocation.

Even so, James ran off down an alley, and when faced with a film crew, he decided to take the time to address the camera.

That camera crew made the video available to police, and once it hit the local news, James was caught.

Because he used a deadly weapon--the beer bottle--he's now being charged with aggravated assault, which is a felony of the third degree in Florida with a sentence of up to 5 years.

Though it doesn't seem like it, he's actually quite lucky with this charge.

If Lucas Jeffrey James had caused serious harm to the woman, he would have been charged with aggravated battery, which is a second degree felony that carries with it a sentence of up to 15 years.
