SpongeBob Attacked in Hollywood

A man dressed up in a SpongeBob costume was attacked in Hollywood on Wednesday. Police questioned the Hollywood SpongeBob character and his attackers after the incident.
It all started when a man in a SpongeBob costume started goofing off a little bit too close to two women on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
What started off as a playful encounter between the trio ended with some real violence. The women at first responded rather lightheartedly, going along with the SpongeBob's antics. But as they say, it's all fun and games until someone gets mad.
The women started punching and kicking the costumed man, ripping the SpongeBob getup. SpongeBob retaliated, landing some blows on one of the women, reports My Fox NY.
And, devastation followed.

SpongeBob and the women were questioned by police, who responded to the incident.
The man in the SpongeBob costume was asked to take off his foam garb, though he was released because nobody wanted to press charges, according to My Fox NY.
It's not the first time that costumed characters have gotten a little violent with tourists and pedestrians, according to KTLA-TV.
City ordinance mandates that characters cannot demand money or charge tourists for posing in photographs with them. But, characters can accept tips, KTLA-TV reports.
As a result, some characters get a little ornery when tips aren't given. And, some costumed characters have increasingly become more aggressive in pursuing tips from tourists.
However, it's still not clear why SpongeBob was attacked. Police have released few facts about the incident. Maybe the Hollywood SpongeBob was looking for a few extra bucks?
