Tom Brady in Car Accident in Boston
A headline that will surely startle Patriots fans has come as of early September 9: "Tom Brady In Car Accident." The New England Patriots quarterback was involved in a serious car accident just after 6:30 a.m. Brady was shaken but refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident. Tom Brady's accident occurred when the player was on his way to Gillette Stadium to prepare for the opening game of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The accident between the Audi driven by Brady and a minivan occurred when the minivan ran a red light and hit Brady's car at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Gloucester Street in Boston, according to The Washington Post. Brady looked shaken, according to eyewitnesses, but essentially unhurt. The Post reports it is believed Brady saw medical personnel from the Patriots.
The passenger of the minivan was reported to be unconscious according to police and was taken to the Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Since witnesses to the accident have said that Brady was approaching the intersection on a green light, early indications are that the fault will lie with the driver of the other car. There may be questions of whether the diver was simply negligent in failing to stop for the red light, or whether liability for reckless driving will be attached. Failing to follow the law, as in running a red light, usually creates a presumption of negligence. This means that the driver of the minivan, in this case, will have to bear the legal burden of proving he or she was not negligent in causing the accident.
As noted a previous post, there are several things everyone, even a famous football star, should do after a car accident. Good suggestions to consider would include, ensuring everyone is unhurt and calling emergency services if they are not, taking notes and/or pictures of damage, talking to witnesses and contacting an attorney if there is a dispute regarding fault.
The Post reported that Brady's agent, Don Yee, has issued a statement regarding the Tom Brady accident:
"I want to thank the safety personnel for their service, and express our concern and support for the well-being of the occupants of the other vehicle. I don't have any other information to share at this time."
