Denial of claimant's application for Supplemental Security Income and Disability Insurance Benefits reversed

O'Connor-Spinner v. Astrue, 09-4083, concerned a challenge to the district court's affirmance of the Social Security Administration's denial of claimant's 2004 application for Supplemental Security Income and Disability Insurance Benefits.

The court reversed the district court's judgment and remanded the case in holding that the ALJ failed to direct the VE to the totality of the claimant's limitations, thus leaving unsupported the determination that someone with her limitations could perform work in the national economy.  The court also held that the ALJ did not address potentially important evidence that the claimant has difficulty taking instructions and responding appropriately to supervision.
