QR Codes: Can Phone Barcodes Boost Sales?

By Jason Beahm | Last updated on

The QR code is really catching on. If you have heard of QR, short for Quick Response, it's currently being discussed as the next big thing. It's a simple bar code that allows smartphones to scan them and quickly share content online. If there is a way to integrate it into your business practices and marketing, you should definitely give it a go.

Checking out quick response codes is quite easy to do, even for free. Kaywa and ZXing were recommended by Here are a few ways you might be able to use them at your business, as suggested by Fast Company:

  1. Labeling. Anything that carries your branding can have a QR code. When a customer scans the code, it can take them to a website that you select. It happens quickly and effortlessly.
  2. Storefront displays. Put up a QR code and a sign that says "Shop Online Now," outside your business. With a quick scan, customers can be shopping at your online store. Now you're never closed for business.
  3. Promotions. Customers love getting discounts and free items. Create a discount that is specific to the QR code and spread it around. You can even incorporate social media by sharing it on Twitter or Facebook.
  4. Get likes and follow. QR codes can be used to get people to follow you and your company online. As Fast Company says, engagement is the name of the game.
