Thanks Dan! 'Criminal Knowledge' Ad is Hilarious; Is It Effective?

By William Peacock, Esq. | Last updated on

"Consequences. They sure suck, don't they?"

Daniel Muessig, a recent Pitt Law graduate who was admitted to the bar in 2013, set up his shop like many other recent grads, most of whom have no better option. And one of the hardest things about hanging a shingle is getting your name out to potential clients.

This ad, which is sure to go viral, should do the trick. It's also another nominee for lawyer ad of the year.

Thanks Dan!

Just watch it:

And thank Dan for making your Friday.

Why This Ad is Amazing

You can be a codger standing in front of a bookshelf. You can throw around legalese, and promise to fight for your potential clients' freedom. Or, you can create an ad with a catchy back beat, a memorable and hilarious slogan, and a down-to-earth, "I am you" approach.

Now, put yourself in the shoes of a 22-year-old drug dealer. Who do you trust more?

Maybe, if you're facing a third strike, or a murder rap, you're going to be spooked into going with the guy who looks like Matlock. But we'd be willing to bet that many alleged criminals are going to see Dan's viral ad and at least give him a call.

Hustle Game

Recent grads have to get it how they live, to use the lingo of Dan's target clientele. And Dan is no exception. According to Slate, he's a lot more than a criminal defense attorney with "street knowledge."

He's also an amateur rapper (Above the Law has his 10 Law School Commandments) and crime novel author, with a published e-book (available for free), Nightwork, about a "small group of young Jewish criminals" who "fight to control a slice of the city's marijuana trade. But it all unravels in a few days, leaving one man to avenge his friends, elude police, and survive in a pitiless city."

M-M-M-M Man of the Year ?

Competition is getting fierce. In recent times, we've seen hilarious family law ads, the Jamie Casino #CasinosLaw advertisment landing a reality TV deal, and now, this.
