Aaron Berry Arrested Twice in 2 Months, Detroit Lions Release Him

By Andrew Lu on July 23, 2012 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Detroit Lions cornerback Aaron Berry was arrested for the second time in two months and has been released by the team.

Over the weekend, Berry was arrested in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on three charges of simple assault. Details of the incident were not reported, but Berry apparently brandished a weapon during the incident, reports the Huffington Post.

This most recent incident followed Berry's DUI arrest last month also in the central Pennsylvania region.

As Berry is now out of a job, the talented young cornerback can focus on his legal defense and getting his life in order.

Following his DUI, Berry was set to enter a diversionary program for first time DUI offenders. Generally, under such programs, DUI offenders can receive rehabilitation instead of criminal punishment, and can have their criminal records wiped clean upon successful completion. However, participants in the program may be kicked out if they violate the law again and could face the criminal penalties they originally faced and avoided by joining the program.

In addition, Berry will now face separate charges for the simple assault. Typically, a simple assault is considered a second degree misdemeanor in Pennsylvania and Berry could go to jail for up to two years. Given that Berry was just arrested for the DUI, a judge could consider that fact in giving Berry a higher penalty.

After multiple arrests, Aaron Berry is learning that each arrest will impact the possible penalties in court. Getting released by the Lions may be the least of Berry's worries as he'll now need a good criminal defense attorney just to avoid jail.
