Alabama Fan Sexually Assaults Passed-Out LSU Fan on Bourbon St?

By Andrew Chow, Esq. | Last updated on

A college rivalry is one thing, but this is potentially criminal: New Orleans police are looking into the videotaped sexual assault of an unconscious man wearing LSU football gear. The alleged attackers: University of Alabama football fans.

The incident happened at a fast-food joint in New Orleans' French Quarter, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Alabama had just dominated LSU to win the BCS title, 21-0.

Bama fans celebrated up and down Bourbon Street, but some of the rowdiness apparently got out of hand.

A five-minute Internet video shows an Alabama fan assaulting an unconscious man wearing LSU apparel. The Alabama fan begins his assault by shoving his middle finger into the LSU fan's nose and ear, according to the Times-Picayune.

The attacker then unzips his pants and places his private parts on the man's neck as other Bama fans snap photos, the video shows. The attacker also acts like he is sodomizing the LSU fan, the New York Daily News reports.

Restaurant employees saw what was happening and dispersed the crowd. The victim has not stepped forward.

Though the attacker may have been caught up in the excitement of his team's BCS victory, his actions are potentially criminal. Shoving his fingers into the LSU fan's nose and ear is an offensive touching that could constitute battery, and mock-sodomizing the victim could rise to the level of a sexual assault. The Alabama fan could also be prosecuted for indecent exposure.

"We collected evidence and we will hold on to it indefinitely," a New Orleans police spokeswoman told the Daily News. But in sexual assault cases, police rely on the victim to file a complaint, she said.

The Alabama-LSU fan sexual assault video was viewed more than 10,000 times before it was removed from YouTube. Neither the victim nor the alleged attacker have been identified.
