Allen Iverson's Ex-Wife Claims He Abducted Kids
Ex-NBA star Allen Iverson is accused of abducting his five children, after a short vacation allegedly turned into a permanent stay.
Tawanna Iverson, Allen's ex-wife and the mother -- with sole custody -- of their five children, made these legal accusations after Allen allegedly failed to return the children to her on both May 26 and June 4, reports United Press International.
Allen may be keeping the kids for now, but a court will decide if he'll face jail time for doing so.
Keeping Children at Hotel
Tawanna claims that Allen Iverson asked for permission to take their five children to Charlotte, North Carolina, from May 22 to May 26. But she believes that he probably took them to a hotel in Georgia, reports TMZ.
Although no arrests have been made or charges filed, Tawanna could potentially have Allen arrested for kidnapping in an alleged violation of their custody agreement.
The former NBA star's ex-wife believes that her children are still at the hotel with Allen. She also worries that his alleged alcoholism is putting them at risk.
Sole Custody
There is no joint or shared custody of Allen and Tawanna Iverson's five kids; Tawanna has "sole legal and primary custody" of their children, reports UPI.
Incidents like this purported abduction are the reason that many parents place anti-abduction clauses in their custody agreements, which may only allow supervised visitation of the kids.
A judge will likely consider these kinds of modifications to Allen's rights to see his children, as well as his failure to pay child support, at the couple's next hearing.
Unpaid Child Support
Allen's ex-wife has attempted to have him jailed for not paying more than $40,000 in child support since their divorce, reports TMZ.
The 11-time NBA All-Star could face penalties for continuing to withhold child support, such as garnished wages, loss of property, or even a revoked driver's license.
The next court hearing may be rough for Allen Iverson, as the judge has previously called him a "hindrance" to his children's "spiritual and emotional growth," UPI reports. The Iversons' children range in age from 3 to 16, according to TMZ.
