LSU Bar Fight: Players Lawyer Up, Delay Police Interviews

By Stephanie Rabiner, Esq. | Last updated on
In response to a police investigation into Friday's LSU bar fight, Louisiana State football players Jordon Jefferson, Chris Davenport, Josh Johns, and Jarvis Landry have hired an attorney, postponing police interviews until after they have conferred with counsel. With approximately 20 players at the scene, the location of which is just blocks from Tiger Stadium, it's unclear why these four have been singled out, but at this juncture, police seem to know little about what exactly happened, and are still speaking to witnesses. What is known is that the LSU bar fight started when a patron honked at a group blocking the exit to the bar's parking lot, reports the Associated Press. Somehow that honk escalated into a brawl, leaving four injured. One of those injuries was quite serious, with USA Today reporting that one of the players is accused of kicking a victim in the head while he laid on the ground. Though no one has been arrested, the AP reports that whoever is responsible for that incident may face second-degree battery charges. This would require a showing that the player intended to inflict serious bodily injury, and that he had no right to act in self-defense. As for the brawl will impact LSU's upcoming season, that seems to be up to Head Coach Les Miles. He told the Associated Press that the team was breaking curfew while at the bar, indicating that a team-wide sanction may be in order. But as for those who actually participated in the LSU bar fight, he plans to reserve punishment until all the facts are out in the open. Related Resources:
