Miami Heat's Chris Bosh Can't Take Daughter to London Olympics

Not such a happy Father's Day for Chris Bosh.

The All-Star Miami Heat forward asked an Orlando judge for permission to take his three-year-old daughter to London to watch him play in the summer Olympics.

But Chris Bosh's daughter will be staying home with her mother in the U.S. for a seemingly ridiculous reason.

Apparently, the baby mama, Allison Matthis, was able to convince a judge that it was unsafe for their daughter, Trinity, to travel to London given possible terrorist threats, reports The Miami Herald. While it may be safe enough to send Chris Bosh and the world's other greatest athletes to London, it arguably isn't safe enough for Bosh's daughter.

So terrorism won its day in the family custody drama of Chris Bosh. However, the real reason that Matthis may not want her daughter travelling with Bosh may have very little to with geopolitical threats. Instead, the acrimony may be because the couple simply does not like each other.

Matthis' attorney describes the London trip for Chris Bosh's daughter as just a photo op, adding that "He [Bosh] doesn't care. He hasn't been decent to my client and his daughter," reports the Herald.

Generally, the custodial parent and the noncustodial parent will work out for themselves when a child can go on vacation with the noncustodial parent. However, when there is a lot of acrimony in a relationship, and the parents cannot work out the issues for themselves, a court will need to step in and make this decision.

Courts commonly consider a variety of factors that center on the child's best interests to determine whether a child can go on vacation with the non-custodial parent. In Chris Bosh's case, a judge gave particular weight to safety reasons for travelling abroad. The judge probably also considered Allison Matthis vehement objections to the travel.

Chris Bosh requested that his daughter travel with him to the summer Olympics in London. His daughter's mother objected citing safety reasons among others. A judge agreed, and their young daughter will be staying home for the summer.
