NFL QB Ben Roethlisberger Not Yet Interviewed about Allegations
NFL QB Ben Roethlisberger has still not been be interviewed by authorities after being accused of sexually assaulting a college student at a dance club, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
According to the Associated Press, a 20-year-old woman attending Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville is the alleged victim and claims Roethlisberger is the alleged perpetrator.
The incident allegedly occurred at a club in the college town's downtown area. Milledgeville police responded that an incident might have taken place in a women's restroom near the area where Mr. Roethlisberger, the woman and other people were socializing inside the club, officials said.
Roethlisberger's off-season home is in Milledgeville about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta.
Witnesses reported the incident to police. Members of the woman's party identified Roethlisberger, 28, as her assailant.
The woman was taken to an area hospital and treated.
At a press conference, Roethlisberger's Atlanta defense attorney Ed Garland said his client is completely innocent.
Garland previously represented rapper T.I. on a federal weapons charge and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis in a murder case.
Investigators are planning to interview the two-time Super Bowl champion for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In general, sexual assault refers to any crime in which the offender subjects the victim to sexual touching that is unwanted and offensive. The laws for this crime vary from state to state.
Last year, a civil complaint was filed against Roethlisberger alleging sexual assault. He has strongly denied those allegations.
Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Frederic D. Bright said he plans eight more interviews before deciding whether to file charges.
The NFL has had no comment on the matter so far.
