Apple iOS8 Rumors: Healthbook, Text Edit, Preview and More
Apple's iOS8 is not expected to release before fall -- but that hasn't stopped the whispers. The word on the street is that Apple's anticipated iOS8 has new features that has the Internet abuzz with speculation, rumors and purported screen shots. Here's a roundup of what's going round the rumor mill.
Healthbook
Taking a cue from the popularity of health and fitness trackers, Apple is getting in on the action with its own version -- Healthbook. The Apple Healthbook will track everything from bloodwork, heart rate, hydration, blood pressure, nutrition, blood sugar, activity, respiratory rate, weight, and oxygen saturation, according to 9to5Mac. Though it's unclear how this information will be tracked, there's some speculation that Apple may be releasing an iWatch wearable device.
One of the features included in the HealthBook is an emergency card that will save personal data such as medications, blood type and emergency contact that can be accessed in case of emergency, reports TechCrunch.
Preview, TextEdit and Tips
Anyone with a Mac will recognize Preview and TextEdit, two favorite applications on Apple computer operating systems. MacRumors speculates that the additions of these apps are "part of an expansion of Apple's iCloud service," while the addition of a "Tips" app remains a mystery.
More Maps Features
In its bid to outdo Google Maps, Apple is continuing to improve its Maps app with more features including "improved points-of-interest data, public transit directions in select cities, augmented reality and indoor mapping," reports iPhoneHacks. Or, you can just use Google Maps, which is awesome.
Consolidations
Slight changes to iTunes Radio, the Notification Center and Game Center serve to streamline access to information, or in some cases make it more visible. For example, iTunes Radio will likely become a standalone app for "better visibility, and increased engagement," while Game Center and Notifications will be downsized, reports iPhoneHacks.
CarPlay
CarPlay, now only available with certain car models may become more readily available with it getting "updated to support WiFi connections instead of relying on the lightning cable to link an iOS device to the car's in-dash system," reports MacRumors.
There's never a lack of speculation when it comes to Apple's new operating systems and products, and we can't lie, some of these new features sound great. We're hoping that it's not all rumors.
