Be Thankful for Technology This Thanksgiving

By Andrew Chow, Esq. on November 20, 2012 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

FindLaw columnist Eric Sinrod writes regularly in this section on legal developments surrounding technology and the Internet.

In some of my prior blogs, I have noted that we tend to live our lives through technology and not in the real world.

I have advised that at least once in a while, we need to put down our gadgets and take time to smell the roses.

But hey, it's almost Thanksgiving, and in giving thanks, we certainly can praise technology.

In many ways, our lives now are easier and indeed more pleasurable because of technological advances.

We can communicate with our friends and loved ones quickly and easily by way of emails, texts, mobile calls, online posting and chatting, and even visually via Skype and other means. This is true practically no matter where in the world we are located.

Using our smartphones, not only do we stay in touch, but we can search the Internet and take photos and videos of anything that catches our fancy.

If we want, we can be surrounded by music. This is true whether you are listening to your own music library from iTunes, or whether we are streaming a station we have created on Pandora, among other means.

Shopping never has been easier. Rather than trek out to the store and wait in line to make your purchases, the goods and services we desire are a close as our keyboard.

You get the drift, so I need not go on and on. But let there be thanks to technology this holiday season!

And stay tuned for where technology will lead us in the future!
