Delaware Launches Website Selling Itself as a Global Hot Spot

By Gabriella Khorasanee, JD on November 15, 2013 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Delaware has long been the go-to place for incorporating domestic corporations. But now, the state is seeking world domination Dr. Evil style.

Earlier this week, Delaware launched (with more success than HealthCare.gov) a global website highlighting the advantages of incorporating in Delaware for international companies, reports The News Journal of Wilmington. The website is available in nine languages in addition to English: Hebrew, Japanese, German, Chinese, Dutch, Arabic, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Why Delaware?

It's a question that's been plaguing us since law school, but now Delaware has kindly created a website that answers that question for us. A quick glance at the site reveals a few places you can click to get your answer to "Why Delaware?"

In case you were wondering, some of the reasons touted by Delaware include the state's corporate laws, specialized courts such as the Court of Chancery, the precedent coming out of the courts, the attorneys, and the Delaware Secretary of State's high standards and specialized services for corporations.

Now What?

Once global enterprises are persuaded to incorporate in Delaware, the website provides information and links to follow to incorporate. It gives you a practical step-by-step process for deciding what form of incorporation is best suited to one's needs, and how to go about incorporating, all with easy-to-download forms online.

Easy to Use

After spending some time perusing the site, we're satisfied that it is not only easy to use but also really practical -- so much so that it may be easy enough for non-lawyers to navigate. The website supplies basic information, and as the go-to state for incorporating, the website displays a bit of the state's own business savvy.

The site just launched, so it's too early to say whether it's drawing the international business Delaware desires. However, the state has made it supremely easy for international business leaders and lawyers to navigate the Delaware corporate legal landscape, and we'd be surprised if it didn't help just a little.
