Get Ahead of the Curve at LegalTech's West Coast Conference
Are you on the Best Coast with a few days to spare next week? We'd recommend devoting that free time to LegalTech's West Coast conference. The conference, in gloomy San Francisco, will be filled with legal tech companies, practitioners, and scholars.
Those who attend can expect to see everything from presentations on data privacy and security to round tables with top counsel from eHarmony, Google, and TiVo -- it's an eclectic mix. If the New York version is anything to go by, attendees can count on a fair amount of fancy swag as well.
Conference Details
The LegalTech conference has been going on for sixteen years now, so it's had time to work out the kinks. Attendees should expect a well-run show, though it will cost you. An individual Master pass, allowing access to pretty much all sessions, costs nearly $1,200 (almost $1,400 at the door), though you can buy an advance pass to the exhibit hall, keynotes, plenary sessions and emerging tech sessions for free ($100 at the door).
The conference runs Monday and Tuesday, July 13th to 14th. Expect to be busy both days, since the conference is absolutely crammed with events and presentations. There are plenty of events throughout the day, allowing you to chose between sessions on information governance in the morning and the effects of "Bring Your Own Data" culture in the afternoon. Plus, most sessions are CLE eligible, which is always a nice bonus.
Highlights
There are a few events we think should be particularly interesting. Knowledge gleaned from the many privacy and information governance sessions would seem to be the most immediately implementable, while sessions on legal tech in "2020 and Beyond" will tickle your futuristic fancy.
Many sessions have a local flavor as well. Tuesday will feature a "fireside chat" on Ellen Pao's Kleiner Perkins lawsuit and its impact on the tech industry, while that afternoon's plenary session focuses on what it takes to be General Counsel in Silicon Valley.
We also recommend the session on the "Legal Implications of Wearables / Internet of Things." Featuring Pierre Zado, founder of Zado Law and FindLaw alumni, this presentation focuses on the legal implications of Apple Watch, Google Glass and the like.
