Google Fiber. You Want It When?
Two words: speed and access. (Technically, that's three words but you're slowing down the process if you're computing.)
When it comes to internet service, we want it faster and we want it yesterday. We're lawyers, and we have things to do!
Two more words for you: Google Fiber. Actually, you may have two questions. How fast is it and where can I get it?
It's hard to say exactly how fast Google Fiber delivers because speeds vary. You can Google it, but yeah. The CheatSheet says it's "practically synonymous with super-fast internet."
In tech-speak, Google Fiber downloads at 1,000 Mbps. It's a gigabit, or about 10 times faster than most wired internet service.
It becomes most impressive when downloading big files, like summary judgment motions (no) and movies (yes). What would usually take minutes, will take seconds.
Google Fiber is not the fastest, but for the price it is probably the best you are going to get. Finding it is another question.
I Want It Now
Google Fiber has hit some bumps on the road to taking over the country. Other companies, like AT&T, have tried to slow it down.
But the fiberoptic network is growing. You can check if it is available in your zip code here.
Now for the question you didn't ask because you don't really care. How much is it? The price just came down to $55 in San Antonio.
Google Fiber said it is not offering the price anywhere else, but Ars Technica suggested it was a test price and could mean lower prices everywhere.
