There's An App For That: Top 10 Apps for Law Students

By Gabriella Khorasanee, JD | Last updated on

You're getting ready for school -- you've purchased your books and technology -- now, the only thing left? Law apps. You guessed it, there's an app for that (never tired of saying that).

Here are some of our favorite legal apps to help get you through law school.

1. Black's Law Dictionary

Rather than lugging around a giant law dictionary, or running to the library every time you need to look something up, you can now download the Black's Law Dictionary app for convenience. (Full disclosure: Black's is a Thomson Reuters product, and so are we.)

2. Bluebook

I started out hating the Bluebook as a 1L, and by the time I graduated, I loved my worn copy of the Bluebook. Case books are heavy -- lug one less thing around and download the Rulebook app where you can find the Bluebook, as well as other rule books.

3. U.S. Constitution

Everything you're studying comes down to this -- download a copy of the U.S. Constitution as a reference -- you'll never tire of reading it. If you do, you are in the wrong profession.

4. Evernote

Stay organized, take notes, snap a picture, record a voice memo -- these are all things you can do with Evernote.

5. Federal Rules

Pick your rules, any rules, and you'll find an app for them. If you don't want them all in one place à la Rulebook (see #2 above), and want to pick and choose individually, you can find popular rule books like the Federal Rules of Evidence, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure.

6. Westlaw

You can do your legal research on the go with the Westlaw app -- convenience at its best. (One more little disclosure: Westlaw is our mothership.)

7. BARBRI

This one is for 3L's: come time to study for the bar exam and MPRE, this little BARBRI app will come in handy.

8. HootSuite

Because your social life will be relegated to random tweets and Facebook updates, download the HootSuite app and take care of all your social media needs in one place.

9. Pandora

Sometimes the only thing to drown out the incessant yapping of your class gunner is to put on your headphones. With the Pandora app you have any genre of music at your fingertips.

10. Damn You Autocorrect

Because nothing relieves stress like a good laugh, sometimes you just need to take a break and giggle at the fine mess people make on their iPhones with the Damn You Autocorrect app.
