Top 5 Law-Breaking Tweets
Naming the top five law-breaking tweets is a risky business.
It raises wrongdoers to the level of celebrity-hood, almost like an Academy Award for lawbreaking. And can you imagine the acceptance speeches?!
But for the common good, somebody has to call out the best of the worst. It helps us recognize the evils of our times -- plus it's good for ratings.
No. Five
In a half-Letterman order, the fifth, top law-breaking tweet is Rosie O'Donnell's. No, not the Ambien one; that was just racist.
The one where she offered $2 million to a couple of senators to vote against the tax bill; that was illegal. You can't bribe public officials, at least not on Twitter, and get away with it.
No. Four
Elon Musk has been called a futurist for his enterprises, including launching a Tesla into space. But that's not illegal, even if it broke some speed limit somewhere.
However, Musk apparently broke the law when he tweeted that he was going to take his company private at $420 a share. The Securities and Exchange Commission is looking into that.
No. Three
White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders violated ethics rules when she tweeted about her experience at a restaurant. It was worse than a bad Yelp review, and the restaurant paid for it.
Walter Shaub, ethics chief at the White House for five years, said Huckabee violated a rule that says government employees can't use their public position for private gain.
No. Two
No top Twitter award is complete without a nod to the Twitter President. It's hard to say he has broken the law though because apparently he can pardon himself.
Still, Judge Naomi Buchwald said President Trump violated the constitutional rights of Americans when he blocked some of his Twitter followers.
No. One
And the No. One law-breaking tweet goes to Vladmir Putin. According to reports, more than 150,000 Twitter accounts based in Russian meddled in the Brexit referendum.
Of course, it's no Facebook. But that is for another awards show, like the Razzies.
