Alaska, the Land of the Midnight Sun. It’s notable for many things--- the Northern Lights, the Klondike Gold Rush, a diverse wildlife population including plenty of bears and moose, competitive sled dog racing, author Jack London, and, of course, Sarah Palin.
The Municipality of Anchorage is a bustling city in the Southcentral part of the state with a formidable backdrop of glaciers and mountains. Boasting a population of over 100,000 residents, it’s the most populous city in Alaska, constituting more than 40 percent of the state's total population.
If you are an Alaskan with a court case, you know there are several courthouses servicing the metropolitan area. If you have a criminal, civil, family law or probate matter, it’s likely in one of the district, superior, or magistrate courts.
Here’s we’ve highlighted five key court systems you’ll most likely encounter: the Alaska Superior, District, and Magistrate courts, the Alaska Court of Appeals, the Alaska Supreme Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Alaska, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska.

District and Magistrate Court

Tel: (907) 264-0517District Court Divisions: Criminal (felony preliminary hearings and all misdemeanors), Civil Claims up to $100,000, Small Claims up to $10,000, Domestic Violence and Protective Orders, and Emergency Orders Relating to Children.
Magistrate Court: City ordinance violations, Criminal, Traffic, Small Claims, Domestic Violence, Marriage License, Arrest and Search Warrants.

Parking: Parking is available in the Diamond Parking Garage on 4th Avenue between "K" and "L" Streets. Limited handicapped parking is available at 303 "K"
Street and at the corners of both 4th and "I" Street & 4th and "H" Street. Consider taking the People Mover public transportation system.

Note: This location handles all federal cases. Also, if you are here around lunchtime check out Cafe 817 (Muffin Man) housed in a 1940’s old tile shop. Get the roast beef sandwich. It has a loyal following.
