Anchorage Courthouses

Last updated: October 27, 2017

Alaska, the Land of the Midnight Sun. It’s notable for many things--- the Northern Lights, the Klondike Gold Rush, a diverse wildlife population including plenty of bears and moose, competitive sled dog racing, author Jack London, and, of course, Sarah Palin.

The Municipality of Anchorage is a bustling city in the Southcentral part of the state with a formidable backdrop of glaciers and mountains. Boasting a population of over 100,000 residents, it’s the most populous city in Alaska, constituting more than 40 percent of the state's total population.

If you are an Alaskan with a court case, you know there are several courthouses servicing the metropolitan area. If you have a criminal, civil, family law or probate matter, it’s likely in one of the district, superior, or magistrate courts.

Here’s we’ve highlighted five key court systems you’ll most likely encounter: the Alaska Superior, District, and Magistrate courts, the Alaska Court of Appeals, the Alaska Supreme Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Alaska, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska.
