Bridgeport is the largest city in Connecticut and is known for its thriving art culture and colonial roots. Many of the city’s courthouses are located in the beautiful historic district. Aside from the Brien McMahon Federal Building, which only hears federal cases, the courthouses in Bridgeport house sessions of the superior court. In the Connecticut court system, superior courts are divided into judicial districts and geographical areas (GAs): the judicial district courts hear more serious criminal and civil cases as well as family court issues, while the GA courts handle minor criminal and civil cases, traffic violations and small claims.
