Free Legal Aid in Corpus Christi

It’s hard to enjoy life, even in gorgeous Corpus Christi, if you have legal problems looming over you. Thankfully, several organizations in C.C. and the surrounding counties have plenty to offer when it comes to dealing with trouble.     The Immigration and Refugee Services group assists local residents in family-based immigration petitions, adjustment of status, naturalization, VAWA petitions, and other similar immigration law activities. Walk-in consultations occur each Thursday, and clients must pay a $25 consultation fee.

    DRT’s services are designed to assist Texans with Disabilities. Staff members and volunteers focus on education, housing, employment, and other legal issues that clients may face.

  • Women’s Shelter of South Texas

    The Women’s Shelter has a legal advocacy program assists clients with obtaining protective orders, filing police reports, filing U VISA and VAWA applications, and finding other forms of help. The Legal Advocate cannot actually represent the client or give formal legal advice, but the services do help clients “find justice.”

    TRLA staff and volunteers provide services in a range of non-criminal practice areas. They offer free assistance to local residents with low incomes. See the Frequently Asked Questions page for more information on eligibility, service areas, and the process for getting help.

  • Nueces County Dispute Resolution Services

    The County provides a free mediation service to help parties resolve civil disputes in a civil manner. A mediator will listen to each side of the conflict and help think of a possible solution. Participants often save money and suffer through less stress when engaging in mediation as opposed to formal court proceedings. See the website for more information on signing up.

    The State Bar is an organization that regulates attorney conduct in Texas. As part of its public service, the State Bar offers referrals to private attorneys who agree to provide a 30-minute consultation for $25 or less. After the first consultation, you and the attorney can work out what an appropriate fee arrangement would be in your case.
