10 Free CLE Webinar Providers: Part I

By Brett Snider, Esq. | Last updated on

Although you may not be down to the wire on your state bar's MCLE compliance date, it's always good to start early.

These ten sources provide valuable CLEs at absolutely no cost, and can save you from spending hundreds on last minute CLE binges:

1. Miller Law Group -- California

Can't say enough good about these guys. They offer great in-house and employment law webinars for free about once or twice a week. Each hour of webinar typically is worth one hour of California CLE credit, and they'll even email you a nifty certificate when you complete the webinar.

2. Attorney Protective -- Multiple

Trying to find some last minute Ethics CLEs? The Attorney Protective offers free monthly webinars on professional responsibility that are typically worth one hour of ethics CLE credit in most states (although make sure to check the fine print).

3. Barkley Court Reporters -- CA, NY, NV, and IL

This court reporting group offers free MCLE webinars on technology use in the courtroom every month. Their online courses are good for MCLE credit in New York, California, Nevada, and Illinois, and they also offer live courses in those states.

4. Fastcase -- Multiple

We've written about these folks before. Fastcase is a legal research engine that operates at a fraction of the cost of many of its competitors. But you won't need to buy a subscription. Fastcase offers free CLE webinars on how to use their product multiple times a month.

5. National Institute for Trial Advocacy -- Multiple

NITA allows you to "buy" access to free CLE webinars on topics like "Effective Handling & Use of Exhibits at Trial: How to Look Cool & Be Persuasive Using Stuff at Trial" and "Fundamentals of Cross Examination." The webinars should be worth 1 CLE hour per hour of participation, but check your state bar's requirements to make sure.

Check back here next week for Part II of "10 Free CLE Webinar Providers."
