Top 3 Cool Legal Jobs This Week: Copyright and Trademark
Maybe you're in that group of attorneys who always wanted to practice patent law, but couldn't because you were hampered by not having earned a B.S. in your undergrad years. And the thought of having to go back to school to earn enough science credits just so you can sit for the exam...? Agh, does it ever end?
Well, the next best thing for you IP types is copyright and trademark law. These IP areas don't require a patent attorney's license and you can start today. As part of our ongoing affiliate program with Indeed, we bring you these copyright and trademark jobs.
1. Disney Assistant General Counsel - Copyright and Trademarks Group
You grew up watching Disney's animated films, now you have the chance to defend and protect the intellectual property rights to Bambi and Nemo.
But don't expect just to slip into this position easily. You'll need to already have had a number of years of handling defense and licensing work. As you know, Disney IP is some of the most recognized (and copied) on the planet. This means an entire battalion of lawyers is required to handle just a portion of the fight. In this position, you'll have many junior lawyers beneath you. The responsibilities you'll carry are enormous.
And Disney isn't kidding around. The company is looking for someone with 15+ years' experience at a minimum -- all IP work. Interestingly, it's your brain, not your charisma that matters as leadership experience is only a "preferred" quality. If you qualify, give it a shot!
2. Tory Burch Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property and Brand Enforcement
If you know anything about women's handbags and accessories, then you'r familiar with the famous bright gold double-T logo. Well, we don't know if you like the line, but the line needs a good IP lawyer, and it might be you.
Like any other international business, each product will have to be vetted that it doesn't infringe on an already existing name. You'll be doing that and a lot more -- including managing the IP quarterly budget and defending the Tory Burch name against overseas counterfeiters. Also, there's lots of traveling with this job.
3. PayPal Marketing and Advertising Attorney
Who doesn't use PayPal these days? And the company's name has reached such common use that it has become a verb: "Just PayPal me." That's good-will you don't want to lose.
This next job from PayPal is kind of a two-fer. Half attorney, half marketing person. You'll need to have already had experience with U.S. regulatory guidelines and compliance standards such as NAI, TCA, and COPPA. Additional requirement include a knowledge of current online privacy laws as well as mobile, native, and media marketing. This is specialized stuff.
This job requires that you carry a California license to practice.
