Top 3 Cool Legal Jobs This Week: Becoming a Law Professor

By Casey C. Sullivan, Esq. | Last updated on

The American Association of Law Schools is having its annual meeting in San Francisco this week, not far from FindLaw's West Coast offices. That means law professors, everywhere. Law professors pitching books. Law professors arguing with panelists. Law professors eating burritos.

Want to join them? You can. Despite the rumors, you don't have to be a Yale Law School grad to become a law professor. So, if academia is in your future, we've got some jobs you should check out. As part of our affiliate relationship with Indeed, this week we're bringing you the coolest law school jobs we could find.

1. Forrester Fellow, Tulane

New Orleans has inspired plenty of literary greats, from Mark Twain to Earnest Hemingway to Anne Rice. You can help continue that tradition as a Forrester Fellow at Tulane. Well, sort of. This fellowship is for legal academics who are looking to teach legal writing.

Tulane is looking for fellows to teach two sections of 1L legal writing classes. But this isn't just a writing gig. You'd have a chance to learn from full-time faculty, a stipend for travel and research, and the potential to build your academic resume.

2. Professor, University of California, Berkeley, School of Law

Boalt is looking for a full or associate professor to join its impressive roster of faculty. Berkeley Law is open to both entry-level candidates and lateral transfers. And get this. The gig is tenure-track, the holy grail of academic jobs.

The school is willing to consider candidates across all areas, but is particularly looking for professors with an interest in the bread and butter law school topics like civil procedure, evidence, and business law. If you want to apply though, you'll have to rush. The school will stop accepting applications soon.

3. Law Professor, William and Mary

The second-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, and home of the country's first law school, the College of William & Mary is looking for a professor or assistant professor of law to join their ranks. W&M is looking for candidates who have the potential to excel as both scholars and teachers, with bonus points for those who have previous experience teaching in law schools.

Have an open position at your law firm? Post the job for free on Indeed, or search local candidate resumes.
