Top 3 Cool Legal Jobs This Week: Sports Law
The Summer Olympics start today, and with them come the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the desire to get out there and take up pole vaulting or competitive gymnastics. But hey, your days of being the next Michael Phelps or Mary Lou Retton are probably behind you.
That doesn't mean you have to give up on a career in sports, though. As part of our affiliate relationship with Indeed, we're bringing you the three coolest, sports-related jobs this week. So get ready to hit the gym polish up those resumes.
1. Staff Attorney, U.S. Soccer Federation
Hey, soccer may not be the biggest sport in the U.S., or in the Olympics, but it is the most popular game in the world. That's what leads the U.S. Soccer Federation to declare, in the first line of this job listing, "We are U.S. Soccer and we are the future of sport in the United States."
As staff attorney, you could be part of that future. The soccer federation is looking for an in-house attorney to provide day-to-day counsel, manage legal projects, and work with staff to promote the organizations pro-soccer goals. Experience in corporate or transaction work is a plus, but we're sure a killer step-over wouldn't hurt either.
2. Entertainment, Sports, Media Attorney, Wegman Partners
Wegman Partners, a legal recruiting firm, is looking for an associate attorney to work in sports and media law in Century City, Los Angeles. Wegman isn't providing too much background here, but if you've got four to five years related experience with a major firm, head to the head of the line. They're particularly looking for someone experienced in mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.
3. Advisory Counsel, NFP
This position would see you working under NFP's associate general counsel for sports, dealing with sports and entertainment clients. NFP is one of the largest insurance brokerage and consulting firms in the country, but you wouldn't be dealing with just insurance matters. As advisory counsel, you'd handle compliance, claims, and corporate legal issues.
Bonus: Corporate Counsel, Vungle
As corporate counsel at this San Francisco app advertising company, you would definitely not be practicing sports law. But you'd have plenty of opportunities to play some sports. One of the listed perks is the "ability to play games and sports from ping pong to league dodgeball."
