Police Arrest Alleged Toilet Paper Bandit

By Kamika Dunlap | Last updated on

Police in the city of Lincoln, Nebraska, have arrested the man who allegedly robbed a convenience store wearing a toilet paper mask.

Because of his clever disguise, the suspect has been called the "Toilet Paper Bandit" as the toilet paper mask was wrapped around his head to conceal his identity. According to the Journal-Star, police arrested Joshua Nelson, 29, who was charged with robbery and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

In general, robbery is the taking of money or goods in the possession of another, from his or her person or immediate presence, by force or intimidation.

Authorities said a man who lives near the store told police he found a discarded knife, rolls of coins "similar to those taken in the robbery" and a prescription bottle with Nelson's name.

That information, plus the video caught on several surveillance cameras which captured the crime, helped police make an arrest of the bandit in a toilet paper mask.

As previously discussed, a man wearing a toilet paper mask was armed with a knife and demanded money as he entered the store.

Police said the toilet paper masked bandit took an undisclosed amount of money from the safe. A police dog was dispatched to try and track down the suspect but at the time, discovered only a trail of sheets of toilet paper.

In a recorded and Mirandized interview, Nelson stated that he was responsible for the robbery, according to a probable cause affidavit prepared by a Lincoln Police Department investigator.
